The Nutsy Fagan Diaries

My Dad is still famous.

Husband and I went to my Adult Sailing Dinner last night.  We go to a wonderful little club on the south shore of Long Island.  It's our little bit of heaven.  NOTHING fancy, by any stretch of the imagination, but rich in history, pride and fun.  Husband and I call it the shack on the bay with the million dollar view.  Anyhoo, I always partake in the adult sailing program.  There are about 20 of us and one of our more distinguished sailors runs the program.  He gets 3 of his buddies to help out and each week we go out sailing in the Flying Scots.  These are wonderful boats for over weight, middle aged folks, such as my classmates. LOL.  We close out each season with a pot luck dinner and some beer.

Last night a gentlemen came into the clubhouse and came over to me and asked if I was Tricky Dick's daughter.  He had tears in his eyes and a smile on his face.  If I had a dime for every man or woman who approached me with tears in their eyes to ask about my Dad....I probably wouldn't be writing this blog.  They all smile and shake their heads and say how they never met anyone quite like him.  "Boy did he know how to have a good time!"  "Boy was he funny."  "Man, was he something."  "Oh, how I loved your father."  "I'll never forget him."  I know all of this.  I am overwhelmed with pride, but even more so, I am constantly reminded of my blessings, which are many.  For this man is part of me.  If this is my small shrine to him, so be it.

So today I remember him.  I'm smiling even through my headache, as I was over-served last night.  It's 5:10.  My dad would be making Tricky Dick Sours if he were still alive.  God bless you Daddy.

Tonight Son and Daugher are invited to a friend's for dinner and some play.  Husband and I are going for early sushi.  YUM.  And we don't have to pay a babysitter!  Nice.
