The Nutsy Fagan Diaries

Flip flop party recipes and really long second toes....

Okay, had the party last night and it was a smashing success!  We had a great time.  The gal who brings the merch had fantastic things.  Gorgeous pocketbooks, toile and polka dot tote bags, and super cute flip flops.  The shopping was ON.  All my goodies went too.  R. Sherman had a small complaint about my not sharing recipes, so here are 3 of the ones I made last night.  Easy and big WOW factor:

Stuffed mushrooms:  1 block of room temp cream cheese and 1/2 cup bacon bits.  Mix together and stuff into Crimini mushrooms (baby bella's).  Bake at 350 for about 10-12 minutes.  YUM.  (Since mushrooms are largely water, there will be water in the baking pan when you take them out of the oven.  This is normal and doesn't affect the mushroom or taste at all.  I use a turkey baster to remove the water.)

Crab Canapes:  1 jar Old English cheese, 3/4 stick of butter, 2 cans crabmeat (drained), garlic powder (I also add cayenne) and English Muffins (halved).  Spread good amount of mixture on top of muffin and bake at 350 for about 15 minutes.  Slice each muffin half into 6 pieces.

Smoked salmon canapes (I never have a party without these):  white bread, smoked salmon (8 oz or so), herbed butter or plain butter.  Smear a piece of white bread with butter.  Lay salmon on top to cover.  Cut off crusts.  Cut remainder into 9 bite size pieces.  Prior to serving, sprinkle with fresh cracked pepper and some lemon juice.  Herbed butter is made with very finely minced scallion, garlic and parsley.  I think it really adds something.  Plus I like having the extra butter around for bread, steak, bagels.  It's very savory.

Party was so good and fun, I forgot to heat and serve my spinach and artichoke dip.  Oh well, more for us to munch on this afternoon.  Here are my new flippy flops (note the ridiculously long second toe which indicates I have a ridiculously LARGE brain....)

Many thanks, from one who cannot live without mushrooms in his life. And by that, I don't mean the San Francisco 1967 Haight Ashbury mushrooms either.

Cheers.

If you are truly a mushroom lover, then you must try Ina Garten's Portobello Mushroom Lasagne AND her Cream of Mushroom Soup.....Oh my my....beyond yummy. Both recipes are available on food network.com

I have never heard of a flip flop party but I want one!!!! Those are so cute. Honey just walked in and asked if those were my feet which tells me that A.) he doesn't pay any attention to my footwear because my flip flops are NOT that cute and B.) I must have a ridiculously large brain too because I could be your foot twin! Honey just mentioned that everyone's second toes are longer. What a killjoy! The food sounds fantastic. I could be the bell of the ball if I had a flip flop party. Everyone here is stuck on Pampered Chef and Candle Light parties. I don't care to go to another one of either of those in the next couple of years. Do they have a website?

You can get the flip flops at www.toegoz.com. This woman buys things from 3 or 4 different merchants and then does house parties. I'm cracking up that we're foot twins. And no, not everyone has longer second toes. Husband does not and actually many of my friends don't. So there. We DO have bigger brains. LOL

Both recipes sound like the joint. I loooove crab and salmon. My favorite is smoked salmon with a flavorful dijon mustard sauce with a touch of honey. Crab meat crepes is another dish a like with a sauce similar to the type used for chicken picata without the chicken. Between you and Catty, you guys bring out the chef in me. Besides making me hungry. ;]

Btw, the toes look good. ;]

I tried the mushrooms and they spanked. Thanks for the recipe.

Cheers.

OMG, you are so funny. I love it that you used the word spanked. Glad you enjoyed them. BTW, I just saw another recipe for stuffed mushrooms on Giada Delaurentis' show. Recipe is also on food network. They get stuffed with scallions, calamata olives, roasted peppers and parmigiana, I think.... Anyway, they looked fine.

And here I thought all along that longer second toes meant that you were a girl (as opposed to an alien?) and now I gather it means you have a big head...excuse me...brain?? What a concept!

Out of curiosity, I just googled longer second toe. It seems there are many myths as to why this occurs. Superior intelligence being the reason just appeals to me. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!! Thanks for the visit. Y'all come back now, ya hear?
